Searching for part time job - part 2

Later, on the 9th of January 2016, I’ve got promoted a job which was being a part time home tutor. My elder sister’s friend’s sister who was Form 5 needed a part time home tutor in order to teach her in Science subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology. So, without hesitation, I quickly responded ‘Yes, I want to do’ to my sister’s friend. We held an appointment on that day at mamak stall (Indian-Muslim restaurant) in Taman Kinrara, Puchong to discuss about the things regarding to the home tuition. After the discussion, we agreed the tuition will start on 11th January and we consented about the tuition fee as well.

However, the problems and challenges surged into my mind after I going back home. I was worried about how to teach her in order to make her more understand on that subject. Besides, I was anxious about the time management in order to catch up the chapters in the subjects on time.  I spared some of my time to revise back the subjects that I used to learn during Form 4 and Form 5. Besides, I did also make a plan on which topics should I teach on that day.

Here are some of the books that used to teach her

On the first day (11th January), I finished preparing the teaching materials and went to her house. I was nervous but I kept telling myself that I can teach her successfully. I tried my level best to teach and explain to her at the time. Nevertheless, on the next day (12th January), she said she still couldn’t understand what I taught. So, I pleaded to her in order to give me second chance but she didn’t want to. She didn’t want me teach her anymore… What!?, This was my first reaction at the time. Nevermind, I tried my level best already… I also got to know about that being a tutor is not very easy than I thought…

Without giving up my hope, on the next week, I traveled to IOI mall, Puchong to find part time job. I basically walked in almost every single shop in the shopping mall but I still couldn’t find any part time jobs. The shop owners either gave me excuses like ‘the part time jobs here are full already’ or ‘there’s no part time job offered here’. Only a few of them were giving me an employment form to fill up. After filling up that form, I made use my time by going to bookstore and read some books. Here again, I was empty handed going back home…

Last but not least, I did also find part time on Internet. I went to this website asianparttime.com to find part time jobs such as Promoter, Retails assistant, writer and so forth. Basically, we are needed to send our resumes to the authorities if we are interested to the specific jobs. So, I did also send lots of resumes to them and hoping them to reply me by emailing me. Lol, none of them were emailing me back, just merely one person interviewed me by phone calling. However, He said that I am not officially 18 years old this was why that company didn’t not want to hire me as that was one of the company policies (Seriously?). Haiz…

In conclusion, from the previous part, we learn that being a promoter must be friendly, keep smiling to customer always and have very good eloquence. I know already why I failed to get hired by them because I was not a person who has very good eloquence and not being very friendly. Speaking about the home tutor, we learned that not everybody is suitable to be a tutor. Being a tutor doesn’t only care about how you very understand on the subjects but also car about how you can disseminate the knowledge to the students. Try your level best also to sent as much resumes as you can to them (the more you sent, the higher the probability to get hire, it depends...) Lastly, I would like to thank those people who at least let me try once on working. Because of you, I can gain lots of experiences although I am rejected by you all at the time. Thank you!

Searching for part time job - part 1

Hello everybody! In previous blog post I were telling you all that I got a part time job already, but however that part time job just merely helping my mother and her boss (actually also my uncle) working in the factory. They kept guiding me on the works, teaching me how to get into society and buying for me lunch every time… After me working there, I chose to find the second part time job independently. The purpose I chose to do this was to let my holiday more beneficial (instead of staying at home every day) before the 1st semester of Form 6 school life begins. So, here is my journey in searching of my second part time job.

Now my wallet is 'empty', so I am trying to find second part time job

In last year’s December (2015 years), I attended the promoter training program that held by ePromode Sdn. Bhd.(a promoter training company) in Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur. At the time, I showed my reluctance to go there because my family compelling me to attend the program so I could gain more working experience. After reaching there, I saw there were also many people who were still studying in College and University or still waiting for their SPM or STPM results presented on the program. I felt nervous and awkward as there were too many people packed in the big training room. During the training, the trainers (who knows as CK and Jasmine) wanted us to ‘break the ice’ with each other by recognizing each other in 5 minutes. Then, they calling us one by one to tell the people’s name who you just recognized (sound great right, I merely get to know 2-3 out of many of them.). Later, the trainer, Jasmine taught us about the marketing and sales principles such as ‘the dos and don’ts of the promoter’ and ‘how to deal with the promoting problems’. She did also give us a short test which I managed to get almost all correct. Lastly, it was the role playing session which I hate the most because you have to act yourself like a real promoter in promoting your product. She gave us about 10 minutes to investigate and discuss with each other about the product and act like a promoter (I simply acting at the time because I was too nervous and I don’t know how to act.). Due to I failed to act as a promoter, none of the branded company (like Nestle, Milo…) wanted to hire me… (how sad it is)

Two weeks later, I decided to find part time job by seeking job vacancy in nearby shopping mall (IOI mall). I travelled to IOI mall by bus (this was my first time…). After reaching there, I go and ask some retail shop lots in the shopping mall like (TGI Friday’s, Esquire Kitchen, Chatime, Starbucks, GSC Cinema…). However, I got no fruition except for the Esquire Kitchen and Starbucks. The Esquire Kitchen (a chinese restaurant) willing to hire me as a waiter but I rejected because I had to work during Chinese New Year (later cannot celebrate liao…) and I didn’t even know which dishes were the best recommended when the patron were ordering food. Speaking of Starbucks, its employees only gave me a form to fill it up then until now I not even getting hire into Starbucks. Therefore, I empty-handed went back home.

Nonetheless, I didn’t give up, I went again to IOI mall in order to seek for part time job in the next day. This time I got a retail shop lot (Selling electronic dictionary) were considering to hire me. I was over the moon. Nonetheless, due to I was too happy and excited, I took wrong bus back to home. The more unlucky thing was the retail shop lot supervisor called me on the phone that other people replace me already… (What?!)

*Part 2 is coming up next, stay tuned…

Kuantan is a very beautiful place, but now...

Hello everybody! Have you ever heard Kuantan this place in Malaysia? Kuantan is the capital city of the Pahang State in Malaysia. It is also the largest city in Pahang state. It has lots of beautiful beaches such as in Teluk Cempedak, Cherating and so on… Besides, it also has a lucrative of minerals resources (in the Pahang state) especially the rare earth, bauxite, tin, gold… Wait a minute, have you read the news regarding the environmental issues that caused by mining activity at that place?

There are a few of mining activities in Kuantan that raising people to against it. Here are 2 examples from the mining activities:

Lynas opened Lynas Advance Materials Power Plant (LAMP) in Gebeng, Kuantan, Pahang in April 2011

Back in April 2011, Lynas (An Australian mining company) opened LAMP in Gebeng, Kuantan. They came over because here had rare earth for their power plant and the costs were cheaper compared to their own country. Moreover, Malaysian government later also granted the company ‘pioneer’ status and offered them 12-year tax exemption so that it could operate in Malaysia. However, many people began to against Lynas setting up rare earth power plant in Kuantan especially those lived nearby there. This is due to the reason that they concerned the rare earth power plant will bring many side effects to their health (rare earth are hazardous) . The Kuantan MP, Fuziah Salleh also expressed her concerned on the parliament as well. Later, the group of Save Malaysia, Stop Lynas (SMSL) which formed by many kuantan community groups began to protest against the Lynas and Lamp. Wong Tack, leader of SMSL held the ‘Himpunan Hijau’ to stop Lynas from operating rare earth power plant in Malaysia.

Recently, I read a news from newspaper that bauxite mining activities in Felda Bukit Goh, Kuantan caused the nearby city to be like in “Mars”.
Bauxite mining activities in Felda Bukit Goh, Kuantan, Pahang

Kuantan recently has become the hub of mineral resources (this time is Bauxite) for the mining company. The bauxite mining activity increased in the state as the demand from China increased after Indonesia banning exportation of bauxite in early 2014. This made Malaysia to be biggest exporter of bauxite to China. China are demanding for bauxite because the bauxite is the raw material of Aluminum in producing air craft body frame, vehicle body frame as well as ship. However, the environmental problem arose when the bauxite dust wash into river then to the sea when there is heavy rain. This make many beautiful beaches are polluted. For instance, Pantai Batu Hitam (a beach somewhere in Kuantan) was polluted because the seaside are turning into crimson color (perhaps it is caused by bauxite dust?) This totally causing tourists ‘running away’ from the seaside and the hotel owners there are losing profit.

Since the rivers are full of bauxite dust, the river water is contaminated. The aquatic animals also die because of the contaminated water. So, the Health Minister, Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam told the people do not drink the water from the polluted rivers even though it is boiled and do not consume the fishes from the rivers as well. This is because the heavy metals in the water are danger to the human health (in long term may cause Alzheimer’s diease.). Besides, the Enviroment and Natural Resources Minister, Datuk seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, has called for the 3 month of moratorium for the Mining Companies (starting from 15th January) in order for them to clean up the polluted sites. He also called the mining companies to clear out the bauxite stockpiles in the Kuantan Port within 7 day.

The view of the seaside where nearby the Kuantan Port...

As you can see everyday the lorry go in and out from the mining sites has caused the road to be in crimson color...

In a conclusion, I think the government should think twice regarding the pros and cons of the mining or development activities in Malaysia. Yup, the mining and development is good for our country and making us money as well as job opportunity, but do you think about the side effects? It is too late for us to respond towards the issue after the environment is polluted and people’s health is devastated. So, we must preserve the environment when developing or mining in order to give assurance for the people’s health
